Our flowers deserve a little bit of attention
Taking care of your lilies is important to achieve excellent vase life. Here’s how to do it…
Cut off the end of the stems at an angle.
Lilies are best kept cool. Once you’ve unwrapped them, cut off the end of the stem at an angle. This increases the area through which water can be absorbed.
Clean water in a clean vase
The vase should be cleaned and filled with fresh water. Replace the water in the vase regularly and recut the stems frequently. Lilies are thirsty flowers, the water should be topped up regularly and also replaced when it becomes cloudy.
Take off the lower leaves
When arranging the lilies in the vase, it is important that you remove the lower leaves. Also ensure that no leaves touch the water, because this will cause bacterial growth, making the lilies wilt faster.
Never put lilies in direct sunlight.
Lilies do not like direct sunlight; this will accelerate wilting. The buds will become soft and vase life reduced.
A Simple tip on pollen
When a lily opens pollen may cause stains on fabrics. First you must let the pollen dry in the direct sun. The pollen can then be brushed off or vacuumed. Over time, Sunlight will breakdown the remaining spots on the fabric. Important: never use water on pollen stains.
